Projects

I have finally completed updating our basement with my last job having been to replace mouldings in the bathroom (above). I've been anxious to start upstairs and began with the small entry into our house...the rest of the living room will be one of the two stripe colors, instead of the red. Votes, light or dark?

My First Love

Sorry Jack, I'm talking about volleyball. Spring Season started tonight. My team, "Vertically Challenged" is so far, undefeated: 6 for 6 games. I can't quite describe how much I enjoy being part of this "old-person volleyball team", as Meg used to call it. It has given me a time and a place to be someone a little different than I am in my everyday life. I love that, and I so appreciate Jack for letting me do this. I know he sees how geeky I am about it and laughs a little at my excitement over winning games or stuffing some jack*** who called out, "free ball!" when I came up to hit. See what I mean? I hardly recognize myself when I get on that court, but I think, as my hero by-day would say, "it's a good thing".

Family That Plays Together Stays Together (2010 Style)

Last week we went to get Henry's haircut at Wild Child in Tacoma, Wa. You know, one of those kiddy salons where they sit in an airplane and get to watch a cartoon of some sort. Anyway, the lady next to me was manhandling her daughter who was freaking out because they had come 30 minutes early (why?) for her appointment and she could not stand a single minute longer without getting in that blasted airplane. I was sick of listening to her, so told the lady cutting Henry to skip our blow dry, we'd settle for a wet head and a sucker...just get that kid in the stinkin' airplane already.

My point...I'm getting there. As she was loading her little angel into the airplane she said, "she's just so excited because she doesn't get videos or computer games at home". I came straight home and placed the nearest electronic device in everyone's hands. I think Brodie was even surfing the net. Lesson learned, thanks for the education lady.

Who's Kid is That?

Thanks for the photo Aunt Meg. Takes one to know one.

Happy Birthday Simon!

You are the best cousin Henry could ask for. Can't believe you are 8. We love you and miss you and wish we could be with you tonight! Your Aunt is a little late on delivery of your gift, but my guess is it will get to you by Saturday. Sorry dude.

Champagne!

Tonight is dedicated to one Mrs. Briggs of Lakewood, WA. She used to walk into TCGC with her freshly washed and curled do, her 10K (at least, it was more like a finger-bobble) ring and her husband with oxygen tank in-tow. She'd have barely sat down when she would address a waitor and declare boisterously, "Champagne!", saying nothing else. The waiter brought her husband a bowl of popcorn swiftly, although he never spoke. I learned tonight that Mr. & Mrs. Briggs both passed away a year or so ago, but I will forever order Champagne! at the Club in honor of these quirky two who seemed to have life finally figured out.

Tonight I enjoyed two glasses with at least 4 peices of unbelievable pizza at TCGC's Pizza Night with 5 of my favorite people. It was a good night. Champagne!

Vietnamese Singing, Music to My Ears

Mommy gets a pedicure thanks to naptime, Daddy and Call of Duty-Modern Warfare. If you don't know what this is, I'm sorry. If you do know what this is, I'm also sorry. Kidding Daddy, love you and your use of an M16A4.

Something about the smell of Liquid Methyl Methacrylate (yes I'm a science-nerd and yes I'm wearing Chacos), the sound of Vietnamese singing and the sight of men eating snake hearts floating in a cocktail of snake blood on the TV that calms a mother. Thank you Queen Nail, Tacoma WA. Ahhhhh.

This is what Busted Looks Like

Lucy threw down her purple crayon as I walked around the corner and took off running as if shouting to the cops, "wadn't me!". When I said, "Louuuucy?" She walked back slowly to the scene of the crime and sat here like this. So guilty.

"Bless Your Door"

This little blessing came home with Henry from school yesterday. Well said I think:

May we fill this place
With kindness to one another,
With hospitality to our guests,
And with abundant care
For every stranger.

My Sweet Tooth

I came across this picture while trying to put a costco print order together tonight. It makes me want to wake her up and smooch on her. What a Lucy?

A HAPPY New Year

After a few hours to ourselves and a few cocktails, John and I declared our joint New Year's Resolution; to have a happy year. Not just to be contemplatively grateful, but to be exuberant, joyful, even giddy about the things we have to be happy about.

Henry started off 2010 as a newly registered ski bum and yesterday we all couldn't have been happier! We really hope you'll have a year of the same!
